The Society of Surgeons of Ophthalmology of Poland (SCOP) is starting cooperation with the Indian Society of Teleophthalmology. A memorandum on the development and implementation of new telemedicine and digital systems in the early diagnosis of eye diseases was signed on January 20. The document was signed by the presidents of both organizations, Prof. Dr. S Natarajan and Prof. Robert Rejdak, who was the guest of honor at the ophthalmology conference in Mumbai.
In the early screening diagnosis of sight-threatening diseases such as macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic macular edema (DME) or refractive defects in children, telemedicine and digital systems play a key role. – The signed memorandum opens the way for us to cooperate effectively in this field, informs Prof. Robert Rejdak, head of the Department of General and Pediatric Ophthalmology at the Medical University of Lublin, president of SCOP. – We intend to exchange experiences between the two associations, which have signed agreements . At the University of Lubin, we have successfully introduced an inter-university project called the Lublin Digital Union, which includes early Keratoconus diagnosis, screening for refractive errors, as well as rare eye diseases and injuries. Ophthalmic trauma in particular is a very important aspect of our cooperation.
The conference in India was an opportunity to present the strategy related to the development of modern therapies and treatment of eye injuries, as well as to present the results of research, conducted at the Lublin clinic. Knowledge and experience in this field were also exchanged with specialists from Mumbai.
-I listened enthusiastically to interesting lectures by doctors and specialists not only from Mumbai, but also from other regions of India,” the SCOP president continued. – I was also eager to share my own experience in this field. It is also very important to teach young ophthalmologists how to perform corrective surgery for ophthalmic injuries. We are happy that Prof. Dr. S Natarajan has organized the best training center in Chembur, Mumbai, and we intend to support him in this very important project. Also our European colleagues can come to Mumbai for training, and a very important person in this project is Dr. Ashraf Armia from Cairo, Egypt. We have common ideas for the project. Besides, as president of the Association of Polish Ophthalmic Surgeons, I invite young ophthalmology and engineering residents from Mumbai selected by Prof. Dr. S. Natarajan to our center for joint training. (JC)
