The primary responsibilities for the Data Modeler within Risk and Compliance Technology are:

  • To contribute directly to the development and maintenance of the parts of the Company Enterprise Logical Data Model most closely aligned with Risk and Compliance subject matter
  • To design and maintain application data models (logical and physical) across Risk and Compliance
  • To provide expert consultancy on data modelling to Risk and Compliance engineering and architecture teams

Requirements

  • Ability to produce conceptual data models and enterprise logical data models (technology agnostic entity-relationship models) in consultation with domain experts across business
    and technology organisation
  • Strong communication and presentation skills: ability to communicate efficiently on topics ranging from abstract
    ideas to specific and complex data models, in a manner appropriate to the audience, to enable model development and review
  • Comfort with ambiguity, and the problem-solving skills to overcome it
  • Stakeholder engagement skills: ability to advocate for the value of data modelling, to build relationships, and to gain buy-in from stakeholders across business and technology teams in this large and complex organisation
  • Ability to produce, and provide consultation on the production of, application logical and physical data models
  • Ability to analyse data through
    both forward and reverse engineering approaches
  • Ability to apply standard data modelling techniques to produce non-duplicative (normalised) data models
  • Understanding of standard
    physical data representations e.g. relational database schemas, XML, JSON
  • Understanding of how physical data model design can affect application performance, and the balance between avoiding data duplication versus achieving required performance
  • Ability to understand and to exploit industry models and frameworks such as BIAN, IBM FSDM and BDW
  • Self-motivation and confidence to work independently with limited guidance
  • Ability to balance analytical excellence versus pace in delivery
  • Ability and confidence to critique and challenge proposed models, designs and decisions
  • Ability to work to deadlines; strong planning, organisation and time management skills
  • An improvement mindset: consistently looking for ways to do things better
