A two-year-old boy has died after being found unresponsive at a nursery in Lancashire on Friday afternoon. Emergency services were called to Parbold Douglas Church of England Academy on Lancaster Lane at around 2.43pm on September 19.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "We were called to Lancaster Lane, Parbold, at 2.43pm on 19th September following reports a child had become unresponsive at school. The child was taken to hospital where despite the best efforts of medical personnel, he tragically died."

Hospital treatment unsuccessful

The boy was rushed to hospital but died despite medical efforts to save him. Police confirmed his death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed to HM Coroner in due course.

Nursery background

The incident occurred at a nursery that operates privately within the Church of England Academy grounds but is run independently, according to the Daily Star and Daily Mail. The nursery serves children aged one to five years and was previously praised by OFSTED for providing a "nurturing, home-from-home environment".

Reports suggest the incident involved a choking episode, according to local sources cited by the Daily Star and Daily Mail. Specialist officers are supporting the family during this difficult time, the Manchester Evening News reports.

Family requests privacy

The child's family have asked for their privacy to be respected during this extremely distressing time. Police emphasised their thoughts are with the boy's loved ones as they cope with the tragic loss.
