A 22-year-old Afghan national was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder following a fatal triple stabbing in Uxbridge on Monday evening. The attack on Midhurst Gardens around 5pm left a 49-year-old man dead and injured two others - a 45-year-old man with life-changing injuries and a 14-year-old boy with non-life-threatening wounds.
The suspect arrived in the UK illegally in 2020 via lorry and was granted asylum in 2022. Officials confirmed he was not residing in Home Office accommodation but had been living as a lodger with the 45-year-old victim for approximately six months. Police arrested him at the scene after deploying a Taser, with footage showing officers shouting commands to "drop the knife."
Detectives are working to establish the relationship between the suspect and victims, though the incident is not being treated as terrorism. Witnesses described seeing the suspect chasing two of the victims before a local dog walker attempted to intervene. "The Afghan man was chasing a man and a boy around the road and a local man who was with his dog tried to stop it," one witness said.
Community Shock
The attack has left the residential area reeling, with around 100 people gathering Tuesday night to lay flowers and light candles. Local residents described the deceased as a "lovely guy, very gentle and peaceful" who was simply "doing the normal dog walk that he does every day." One neighbor said he was "the last person on earth that you would think somebody would go for."
Chief Superintendent Jill Horsfall called it "a shocking and senseless act of violence that has left one man dead and two others injured." Police have deployed multiple officers to the area throughout the week to provide reassurance while the investigation continues. The Home Office said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those impacted by this horrific incident. We are receiving regular updates from the Metropolitan Police. The priority must now be for the police to investigate so those responsible can be brought to justice."
