Police have released CCTV images of a suspect after two men were stabbed at Oxford Circus Tube station within 24 hours. The Metropolitan Police confirmed the assaults are connected and investigators are working to identify the attacker.
Emergency services responded to the first incident at 3:40am on Saturday when a 23-year-old man was injured. The victim was treated in hospital following the attack at the busy central London station.
The second stabbing occurred just after 1:30am on Sunday, with a 43-year-old man suffering stab wounds. He was also taken to hospital for treatment following the assault.
Investigation underway
Police have released CCTV footage of a man they want to question as part of their investigation into both incidents. No arrests have been made despite the ongoing inquiry and public appeal for information.
Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Davies said there is absolutely no place for violence on the rail network. He confirmed detectives are working at pace to investigate the two connected incidents at the station.
Passengers will see an increased police presence at Oxford Circus station while officers carry out their inquiries. Davies urged anyone who was in the area during either incident to come forward with information.
Witness appeal continues
Police want anyone who saw the attacks or events leading up to them to contact investigators. Davies said any piece of information might be vital for the investigation.
