A 58-year-old man has been charged with stalking Liberal Democrats leader Sir Ed Davey and his family over a four-month period. Inigo Rowland allegedly made repeated unwanted visits to the Kingston and Surbiton MP's home address between June and October this year.

Court documents reveal Rowland turned up at Sir Ed's address "unannounced" and "numerous" times during this sustained campaign. The persistent visits to the family home prompted authorities to bring formal stalking charges against the defendant.

Court proceedings

Rowland appeared before Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, 7 October and was remanded into custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, 14 October at the same venue.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed the arrest timeline and legal proceedings. The spokesperson said: "He was arrested on Monday, 6 October in relation to the offences, which are alleged to have taken place between June and October."

Additional charges

Rowland faces an additional charge of possessing a flick knife in connection with the stalking case. The weapon possession charge adds further severity to the allegations against the defendant.

Family safety priority

Sir Ed Davey lives with his wife Emily and their two children - son John, who has severe disabilities, and daughter Ellie. The family's wellbeing has become the primary concern following these alleged incidents.

A Liberal Democrats spokesperson emphasised the party's focus on protecting the family from further distress. The spokesperson said: "We cannot provide any details at this time, Ed's number one priority is the safety of his family."
